Seixal is the center of canyoning on Madeira, where the biggest canyons come together. We will drive to Chão da Ribeira, which literally means riverbed. This is the place where different big canyons, like the Seixal canyon, come together. They all start on Paul da Serra (marsh of the hill) on an altitude of 1400 m. 1000 m lower all these canyons come together and they flow together to the see. We find ourselves in the unique laurel (Laurissilva) forest near Seixal. After a 45 minutes walk up hill we will begin our journey down with a rappel in a tributary of the main river. We will encounter 7 different rappels, the highest being 20 meters high.
Note: there are no jumps or slides in this canyon.
Location: Chão da Ribeira
Schedule: everyday, alle year round, with a min. of 2 participants
Important to bring: towel, swimming clothes
* Please note that due to erosion, this tour is not available at the moment, a good alternative is Ribeira do Cidrão.
